Sometimes truth is so harsh that it is difficult to even read about it. This is where my recent read comes into picture.

A Thousand Splendid Suns is a novel by Khaled Hosseini. The novel story is based in Afghanistan, a country torn apart by continuous conflict since the year 1978. The novel starts from 1964 and goes all the way to 2003. Women rights and liberties change  depending on the regime. Already the situation was worse for women, but Taliban’s takeover (during 1996-2001) turns out to be an ultimate disaster.

The whole time I was thinking how difficult it is just to read, while this being a reality for many. Every character is affected by the fighting and wars in the region. Overall, the novel illustrates the power of love and what people are capable of, in difficult circumstances. This one was a rare novel where I cannot pinpoint something I didn’t like.

In the end, I would like to say it is a highly recommended read.
